Meanwhile... Fred Frith has been awarded the 2008 Demetrio Stratos Prize for his career achievements in experimental music. Previous winners were Diamanda Galas (2006) and Meredith Monk (2007). The award will be presented during the Suoni e Visioni Festival in Milan on May 9th (see concerts page for details). Demetrio Stratos was vocalist with the band Area during the 1970s, and later became known as an extraordinary experimental singer, much loved by John Cage, and achieving legendary status after his tragic death at the age of 34 in 1979. The award will be presented by his widow Daniela Ronconi Demetriou.
